Pe’Sla is an area in the Black Hills of South Dakota that is considered by the Lakota people to be the Center and heart of everything that is. The site, and the prayers that take place there at certain times of the year, are essential to the Lakota way of life. The land is privately owned, and is set to be offered for sale, after which it is likely that the state of South Dakota will build a road directly through this sacred place.
The bands of the Great Sioux Nation are attempting a collective effort, via IndieGoGo, to buy as many tracts of the land as possible, and preserve Pe’Sla.
The campaign ends at 11:59PM (PT) on September 08; out of a goal of a million dollars, they have currently raised $334,049.
To learn more about Pe’Sla or to donate directly to the campaign, visit their IndieGoGo page.
